We could not have asked for better weather for the start of the 2012 season. There was a brilliant turn out for the first medal with 84 participants (Div1=39, Div2=31, Div3=10, Hcp=4). I have decided to post the results but due to what time I have available this may not always be possible. For up to date results please can you make sure you register at Howdidido.

The two Centennial cups were presented by Keith Rowbottom to commemorate his Grandmother’s 100th Birthday. This competition is one of the Vale Golf and Country Clubs most prestigious men’s individual competitions. The original format of the competition involved qualification over 8 stroke play medals and then a 54 holes for the quarterfinal, semi-final and final played over one weekend. The aim of the competitions format was to find the most consistent players from division 1 and division 2 players.

After careful consideration based on feedback from members, past captains and in consultation with Keith Rowbottom the committee has decided to revise the format of the Centennial Cup competitions. The aim of the new competition still holds true to that originally envisaged by Keith Rowbottom, to find the most consistent player at the club. The difference is that the new format will be more inclusive.

The new format takes into account the various family commitments most of us have and that we cannot commit to playing both days of the weekend. It also takes into consideration that some of the members who are getting on in years can play consistently over the year but cannot necessarily play 54 holes in 2 days.

The new Centennial cup will be an order of merit over 10 competitions over the summer season. Order of Merit points will be earned from each of these qualifying competitions depending on the player’s Nett finishing position in his division.

Position 1st  2nd  3rd  4th  5th  6th  7th8th 9th  10th
Points151210 8654321

Only merit points earned in a Division will qualify for that Division. Any player moving from one division to the other during the season will preserve his points in the other Division and may qualify from those points or those earned in the new Division.
